APPROVED VISUAL ID FOR CATTLE
Cattle
born after 1 January 1998 must have a Defra approved ear tag in each
ear (double tagging). The tag in each ear must have the same unique
number. Such animals will be identified throughout their lifetime
by this unique number. Animals born or imported into Great Britain
before 1 January 1998 may continue to be identified by a single
tag. Cattle born after 1 July 2000 must be identified by all numeric
tags. Full details of the current regulations with regards the tagging of animals in the England can be found on the DEFRA web-site, in Scotland on the Scottish Government site and in Northern Ireland on the DARDNI site.
The SENIOR (large) tag is 80 x 58mm and available in yellow only. It is used for Official ID (inc replacements) and Management Tags.
The JUNIOR (medium) tag is 60 x 57mm and available in yellow. It is used for Official ID (inc replacements) and Management Tags.
The SVID BUTTON (small) tag has a diameter of 30mm and is only available in yellow. It is used for Official ID (inc Replacements) and Management Tags.
